Okay. It’s um… less than 24 hours away.

My ALL TIME FAVORITE moment in Harry Potter issssssss:

The Sirius/ Pettigrew Revelation (Prisoner of Azkaban)

This one is similar to the Quirrell revelation, but it is even wilder. It turned out that not only was Ron’s rat an animagus, but he was the true villain and the mysterious and terrifying figure of Sirius Black was the good guy who was trying to protect Harry. Like the Quirrell revelation, this was a ridiculously unexpected and moving twist. This time, however, it added such amazing layers to the whole story. Suddenly, Harry had been closer to his family than he had been since he was one year old. He had a godfather who was good and faithful to him. Additionally, he mysteries surrounding his death became all the darker and more complicated. Also, on the subject of Scabbers, this moment solidified once again that nothing in this story is as it seems.

Fave Potter Moment Number 2 is:

The Resurrection Stone (Deathly Hallows)

Remember that time when Harry was walking to his death and he figured out what Dumbledore put in the Snitch and he used the Resurrection Stone to bring his parents and Sirius and Lupin back and I literally had to remove myself from the book and sob uncontrollably for about an hour?

Yeah. Looking forward to this one in the movie. With like acting and music and stuff this time.

But really, it takes a lot for a book or movie to make me cry. It had never happened in the books before Deathly Hallows. Not even Sirius or Dumbledore’s deaths made me cry. THIS SCENE. I really can’t deal with it. I weep every time I read it, finally exploding into complete hysterics when Harry asks his late friends and parents, “You’ll stay with me?”

Until the very end.

WE’RE GETTING CLOSE!

Fave Potter Moment Number 4 is:

That time when Quirrel was EVIL (Sorcerers Stone)

So imagine my nine-year-old self reading Harry Potter for the first time. I’m really enjoying it, but not really expecting anything particularly huge to happen by the end. I thought Harry and his friends would go down into the dungeons, defeat Snape, and live happily ever after. Then I reached the final chapter. BAM. “It was Quirrel”. I will never forget those three words. I couldn’t believe it - my head was spinning. How could it be poor, stuttering Professor Quirrel? Snape’s the evil one! He even has the greasy hair and batlike figure to prove it! To make matters nuttier, Voldemort was under Quirrel’s turban, sitting on the back of his head. Like, what the hell?!? First of all, this is some scary shit for a children’s book. Also, I couldn’t believe that I had been set up to think it was Snape the whole time. I had been absolutely duped. At the moment, this was such a thrill. The book had taken the most exciting twist, and this was the twist that truly hooked me for the rest of the series. I didn’t know it then, but this moment was so defining. I learned that, with JK Rowling, the best thing to do was to expect the unexpected. All the clues were there - there was no reason to not believe that it was Quirrel. I just had to look a little harder.

“If this is going to be the rest of the series,” I thought, “I’m in for a real treat.” I was right.

Fave Potter Moment Number 5 is:

The Department of Mysteries (Order of the Phoenix)

Like, really. How fucking COOL is this scene. Besides that time when Sirius dies (ignoring that one……)

Seriously. You get little glimpses of this place throughout the whole book, and when Harry finally gets there it is amazing. It is truly a testament to JKR’s huge imagination. I’m not sure why, but this scene was just so intriguing and BADASS to me. I mean, come on. We have the veil. Like what the hell IS that? Not to mention the locked love room, the time turner room, the prophecy room, and every other crazy room the gang enters. The book never even fully explains what this place is or what really goes on there. I think the whole mystery aspect of the Department of Mysteries is what moves me so much. I could read this scene over and over just because I want to explore this place so much. I am as affected by the places of Harry Potter as I am by the characters and circumstances. Every location is just so vivid, and to me this place is one of the most magical and terrifying.

I also love the battle that happens here, especially the one between Dumbledore and Voldemort. It’s just too epic.

So, that’s that. I guess this is a weird favorite moment but I have always been just fascinated by the Department of Mysteries.

Potter Moment Number 6 is also not a moment directly from the books. It is:

The World Premiere of HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 1!

Wow. What can I say. This was without a doubt one of the most magical days of my entire life.

I was studying abroad in London, and on the evening of the world premiere myself and a few friends BOOKED IT from school to the Camden Town Underground Station. We made it to Leicester Square, and there were people EVERYWHERE. We pushed as close as we could to the red carpet and waited. In the rain. It was like a fantasy. There were torches in front of the Odeon that shot fire into the sky (and made me scream), Death Eaters were everywhere, and the excitement was absolutely palpable. I managed to glimpse Imelda Staunton and Helena Bonham Carter, which was amazing. But then there she was. JK Rowling herself, in black lace and in the flesh. I couldn’t believe it. I wept. I was in the presence of an icon and my hero. She has led me on such an amazing journey for all these years, and there she was, right at the end. I don’t know what is so magical about just seeing somebody like her, but I couldn’t keep myself together. This moment also reminded me of how absolutely lucky I was to be in London, living an amazing life and receiving an amazing education. It was just so inspiring. And this is the power of my dear, dear Harry Potter.

Oh, and after that I got Chipotle. At the only Chipotle in the UK. So, all-around win.
